Reaction Principle:
The pretreatment tube removes potential interferences before the benzene measurement. Benzene reacts through a two-step process involving formaldehyde and sulfuric acid, producing p-quinoid products that create the measurable color change.
Cross-Sensitivity:
The tube is designed to minimize interference from common gases and hydrocarbons. Testing showed no apparent response from isobutylene, n-heptane, toluene, methane, carbon monoxide, or hydrogen sulfide at the concentrations listed on the datasheet. n-Hexane at concentrations above 100 ppm may reduce the benzene response. m-Xylene produced a measurable response of 5 ppm at a test concentration of 100 ppm.
Other Possible Interferences:
Hydrocarbons and similar reducing gases may interfere with measurement.
